Tips of the Season
January - April
Time — our most precious commodity!

Time - our most precious commodity! With the new year, we set goals for ourselves. At the top of our list is finding time for what is truly important to you. These tips can assist you in honoring what is most meaningful to you, setting your priorities and finding balance in your life.

Plan personal time
The only way to spend time on what you love is to place it at the top of your priorities. Make a list of what is most important to you, and keep it in a place you can read it frequently. Write in your calendar the time you plan spend on these activities and events, holding a time block for these before other requirements are placed on your calendar.

Find a calendar you love
Choose what you love and you will use it! Either paper or technology, decide on either daily or weekly view at a glance. Keep your calendar at the spot you will use it most, and take it with you wherever you go. Write in all your appointments, social events, and family members’ activities as soon as you can to be sure to keep up to date.

Weekly planning sessions
Set aside a time at the beginning of the week to have your own time to plan and prioritize upcoming activities and events. By planning and preparing in this manner, you will not be surprised by unexpected events and will be able to use time blocks to accomplish even the smallest of tasks in the most efficient and timely manner. Leave some “cushion” room between activities. When last minute details arise, you will still be able to find a time to accomplish these.

Lists
Lists serve the purpose of prioritizing our activities and tasks. Since our lives are complex, we must write down all that we have to accomplish! When you do this, break your list into three columns, the “Must Do List” (business meetings and children’s activities), “Hope To Do List” (baking valentine cookies), and “Long Term List” (renovating the kitchen). Use your weekly planning session time to collate this on your planner daily. Keep your list with your calendar so that nothing gets lost in the shuffle between them.

As we begin the new year, make time to clearly define your priorities in order to use your time most wisely. In this way, we truly honor our heartfelt values!
